Dublin, 24 December 2020 : Commenting on this afternoon’s announcement that a Brexit deal has been agreed between the EU and UK, EM Ireland CEO Noelle O Connell said: “We welcome this agreement which will provide some clarity and comfort to business and consumers regarding what will occur at the end of the transition period on 1 January 2021.
“It is a positive development and one that can be built upon with a view to ensuring the EU and the UK have an ongoing constructive and mutually beneficial relationship.
“Ireland’s future lies at the heart of the European Union and it is vital that Ireland engages strategically and constructively in shaping that shared future with our European partners.
“Likewise, our future will also remain intertwined with our nearest neighbour, the United Kingdom, and we will continue to work constructively towards facilitating cooperation between EU and the UK. We believe that Ireland has an important role to play in that process.
“Finally, I would like to pay tribute and thanks to all those involved in this process, particularly Michel Barnier who will receive the EM Ireland European of the Year award at a ceremony in January.”
