Dublin, 27 February 2023: Today’s agreement on the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland should be taken as an opportunity to reset relationships, said European Movement Ireland CEO, Noelle O Connell:
“This agreement, the Windsor Framework, brings long-overdue clarity on the Protocol and the relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom. However, clarity is not the same as finality and further engagement will be required to ensure the agreement functions in a way that benefits people in Northern Ireland and across the whole island.
“Everyone with an interest in this process should see this framework as an opportunity to reset relationships. It should be a new beginning in terms of building the relationships required to make the post-Brexit reality work.
“We particularly welcome the proposed enhanced engagement with Northern Ireland citizens and stakeholders on these issues, while Northern Ireland remains aligned to the Single Market.
“It is important for all sides and interested parties to work together to make these arrangements now work for citizens and businesses.
“However, a page has been turned and we hope today’s agreement represents a new and important opportunity for all communities and businesses in Northern Ireland.”
