Tribute to Honorary President and former Chair of European Movement Ireland
Dublin 17 March 2022: European Movement Ireland (EM Ireland) would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of a former Chairwoman and an Honorary President of EMI, Dr Miriam Hederman O’Brien, who has sadly passed away.
A committed Irish European, Dr Hederman O’Brien made invaluable contributions to the work of European Movement Ireland with great distinction for over five decades. Through her role as Honorary President and as an active member of EM Ireland’s Advisory Council, Miriam served with great distinction for many years and her wisdom, insight, knowledge, and passion for Europe helped guide the work of European Movement Ireland for over fifty years.
EM Ireland Chairperson Julie Sinnamon said, “Miriam was a leading member of our organisation whose vision, drive and integrity was an inspiration to all our members. Her belief in the importance of Ireland’s place at the heart of Europe remained constant throughout her life and she worked tirelessly to achieve the objectives which European Movement Ireland was founded upon. Miriam will be sorely missed and I would like to express our deepest sympathies to her family and friends. RIP”
EM Ireland CEO, Noelle O Connell commented, “I was honoured to have worked with Miriam during her distinguished tenure of service to EM Ireland over many years. A committed Irish and European, Miriam never wavered in her passion to further Ireland’s place in Europe. She blazed a trail in her many contributions to Irish and European society through her leadership and participation in a range of organisations, institutions and bodies in Ireland and overseas. Miriam was a role model and an inspiration and leaves behind her a long legacy of public service. Our sincerest condolences to her family and wide circle of friends, Suaimhneas síoraí di.’’
