Tuesday, 26 November, Dublin – European Movement Ireland General Election Manifesto Overview 2024 launches today, it provides a comprehensive overview of Irish political parties’ positions on key EU issues as outlined in their published manifestos for the upcoming general election.
EMI’s overview provides a snapshot of the parties’ stated commitments on a range of EU policy areas including Migration, Climate Change and a Just Transition, Israel-Palestine-Lebanon Conflict, Business, the Economy and Digital, Ireland in the World, Democracy, Equality and Civic Engagement, Education, Healthcare and Housing.
Speaking in advance of the launch, Noelle O Connell CEO European Movement Ireland said; “This general election comes at a pivotal moment for Ireland’s relationship with the EU. The manifestos demonstrate that parties from across the political spectrum are actively referencing European issues and framing their policies within the context of our EU membership. This reflects a growing recognition of the EU’s significance for Ireland’s future across a wide range of policy areas.”
“Given how so much of what the new Irish Government will be proposing to do after the election will be strongly influenced by legislation coming from Europe, EMI is really pleased to see the significant uplift in EU matters referenced across the manifestos of the political parties contesting Ireland’s 2024 general election.”
European Movement Ireland is a not-for-profit and independent organisation and does not endorse any political party. Instead, it aims to provide voters with a clear understanding of the parties’ positions on EU matters so they can make informed decisions at the ballot box.
In advance of the General Election, European Movement Ireland launched its 2024/2025 Manifesto asking political parties to put Europe on the Agenda and to ensure that Ireland continues to contribute to a peaceful, progressive, and democratic European Union and an Ireland that works for all.
“We asked political parties to advance key issues such as supporting the application and monitoring of the rule of law across the bloc, promote an increase in voter turnout during elections and referenda through the Electoral Commission and to recognise the important role civil society plays in Ireland in strengthening democracy and supporting public services through the provision of and access to funding, amongst other recommendations.
“European Movement Ireland is ready to play its part in advancing a constructive EU agenda, for the next mandate across the political spectrum,” concluded CEO Noelle O Connell.

Methodology
European Movement Ireland’s General Election Manifesto Overview 2024 extracted policy areas specifically related to EU issues and legislation from party manifestos, providing a comprehensive overview of Irish political parties’ positions on key EU issues as outlined in their own respective manifestos for the upcoming general election. At the beginning of this process European Movement Ireland contacted all political parties contesting the 2024 General Election that were registered with the Electoral Commission via their public contact details. We asked them to provide us with their full General Election 2024 manifesto before the deadline of Wednesday 20th November 2024 at 5pm. Some parties’ manifestos were not available by the given deadline, however, are listed in our Methodology.
