Dublin, 15 November 2017: European Movement Ireland (EM Ireland) is urging every person to have their say on the future direction of the EU by getting involved in Ireland’s dialogue on the future of Europe, launched by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD with Minister Coveney and Minister McEntee today (15/11/17). Following today’s national launch, public dialogue events will be taking place around the country over the coming months.
Speaking at the launch, Noelle O’Connell, Executive Director of EM Ireland, said that similar conversations on the Future of Europe are taking place across many Member States and that Ireland needs to be active in the shaping the process. She commented: ““The European Union affects each of us every day whether through the benefits of being in a single market of 500m consumers; through our rights as employees; our consumer protection laws; our food safety standards; or the removal of data roaming charges, so we should all get to have our say on the future direction of the EU. That’s why EM Ireland are delighted to be working with An Taoiseach, Minister Coveney, Minister McEntee and the Department of Foreign Affairs in opening up this national conversation through our social media platforms, where anyone can ask a question or leave a comment, and through live streaming of the events.
“We are at a significant moment for the EU where the member states are determining how we can work together to tackle the big challenges of our times, like climate change, security and migration. This is our chance to influence the EU’s direction and to make sure that Irish concerns are to the fore.”
Ends.
