On Thursday, 12 May, European Movement Ireland launched a 4 Day Appeal to let British people in Ireland know that they had just days to register to vote in the UK referendum on EU membership which will take place on June 23rd.

Over 1,000 press releases were issued to national and local media in Ireland, to alert British people living in communities throughout Ireland that Monday, 16 May is the UK Electoral Commission’s recommended registration deadline.

Speaking about the appeal,  Noelle O Connell, Executive Director of European Movement Ireland, said “British people in Ireland simply have to log onto www.gov.uk/register-to-vote – it’s that easy.  We hope that those living here will check their eligibility and register to vote if they have that option.”

This reminder is part of European Movement Ireland’s #PhoneAFriend campaign, which aims to get both British citizens living in Ireland and Irish people in Britain to register to vote in the UK’s EU referendum.  Irish people based in the UK have until June 7th.

Media Interest

We were delighted that local media from Cork to Donegal,  the issues and helped us to get the word out.  RTÉ radio and television also covered the registration deadline.  Listen back, read and watch some of the coverage we received at the links below:
