Supporting Democracy: Women in Leadership, Equality and Empowerment in Europe
European Movement Ireland and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung hosted an online event, ‘Supporting Democracy: Women in Leadership, Equality and Empowerment in Europe’.
This is the first of three planned events with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in 2022, all of which will focus on the theme of Supporting Democracy.
Following International Women’s Day, this event examined the importance of gender equality in supporting and advancing functioning democracies, democratic norms and values in Europe. The role of women in multilateralism and geopolitics will also be discussed, particularly in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
These issues will be examined from Irish, German and EU perspectives in terms of supporting equality across Europe, including the EU Gender Equality Strategy.
