On the 13th of April 2026, European Movement Ireland hosted a civil society Forum – ‘Brexit 10 Years On’, hosted by MEP Nina Carberry. MEP Carberry discussed how Northern Ireland is currently accounted for in her work in the Delegation to the EU-UK Parliamentary Partnership Assembly.

Approaching 10 years since the UK left the European Union, the forum brought together organisations from across Northern Ireland and Ireland to reflect on how Brexit has affected cross-border cooperation and the work of civil society organisations. The discussion highlighted the challenges and opportunities that have emerged from the post-Brexit landscape, including the role of the Windsor Framework, the importance of programmes such as Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe, and the need to protect funding for PEACE PLUS initiatives. Civil society organisations shared practical experiences of regulatory divergence, administrative barriers and funding uncertainty, while also emphasising the importance of continued EU–UK engagement and stronger support for cross-border collaboration ahead of Ireland’s upcoming EU Council Presidency, including hosting an event around the border region with CSOs.
