European Movement Ireland hosted an in-person event ‘Celebrating how EU values have shaped Irish citizens’ lives over 50 years of EU Membership’. This event marked the culmination of our programme of events and outreach work marking Ireland’s 50 years of membership.
This event marked the transformative impact 50 years of EU membership has had on the country and Ireland’s emergence as a modern, open economy and society. It reflected on how EU values and rights has changed Ireland and shaped Irish citizens’ lives. The event also celebrated the country’s first European citizens born on 1st January 1973 known as the ‘Eurobabies’.
Speakers included a keynote address from Minister of European Affairs Peter Burke TD followed by a panel of speakers. This event will be moderated by Noelle O Connell, CEO of European Movement Ireland and she with Minister Burke presented the Eurobabies with a commemorative medal.
