Throughout the campaign to vote against Irish entry into the EEC their emphasis on the overall lack of awareness surrounding the political, cultural and social implications of Ireland joining the EEC. In 1979, a group of secondary school students from Mulingar put together a seminar and exhibition entitled ‘You and Europe’ to investigate the level of interest that Irish people had in the European Community, 

The outcome of the students work demonstrated that although amajority of local people had an interest in European affairs, they had little knowledge on the European Parliament or EEC regulations.
