Newly appointed European Movement Ireland Chair calls for continued input and ideas from people across Ireland in discussions about Europe’s future at AGM
For immediate release
Dublin, 20 September 2021: Julie Sinnamon chaired her first European Movement Ireland AGM this evening after her appointment to the organisation’s Board of Directors earlier this year.
Speaking at the meeting, which was held online, she highlighted the importance of people in Ireland ensuring that their voices are heard as part of the ongoing Conference on the Future of Europe,
“It is hugely important that people throughout Ireland are actively engaged in conversations about the future of Ireland and the EU at such a crucial juncture in Europe’s history, as we begin to emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic and amid the fallout of Brexit. I strongly encourage people across all areas of Irish society, and indeed Irish people living across Europe, to be sure to have their voices heard at one of the many meetings and events happening as part of the Conference on the Future of Europe, or by submitting their ideas on the multilingual platform online. We at EM Ireland will continue our work to ensure that people from all walks of life are included in what is an extremely important and timely conversation about our future.”
Further, commenting on Brexit and the future of Irish-UK-EU relations, Ms Sinnamon said,
“In terms of Ireland-UK, there is hardly a person in Ireland without strong familial ties in the UK. In a post-Brexit era, it will be very important that we build on our existing strong relationships and develop new mutually beneficial relations between Ireland and the UK. Given our longstanding relationship with the UK, Ireland can offer a unique perspective in shaping the new EU-UK post-Brexit relationship.”
