Thursday, 24 May 2018: Today (24/5/18), European Movement Ireland (EM Ireland) joined European Movements from across the continent to mark the seventieth anniversary of the Congress of Europe at The Hague 1948 at a two day event in The Hague. EM Ireland was represented by Executive Director, Noelle O Connell, and outgoing chairperson of EM Ireland’s Brussels Branch, Noel Clehane.
Speaking from The Hague, Noelle O Connell, said: “The Congress of the Hague 2018: Sharing Europe is bringing people from all walks of life together in search of answers to the common social, economic, environmental and geopolitical challenges of our time, and to discuss and debate shared visions for the Future of Europe in the spirit of the 1948 Congress, where important steps towards European integration were taken.
“In Ireland, we have just completed the first phase of a national conversation on the future of Europe and this event is a chance for us to share the feedback we received from all around the country in our Citizens’ Dialogues and to learn from the experiences of our European colleagues.”
EM Ireland also took the opportunity to pay tribute to its outgoing Brussels Branch chairperson, Noel Clehane.
“Noel has been at the forefront of our Brussels Branch since it was founded in 2013. His dedication, hard work and leadership has been critical to the success of the branch over the last five years. I would like to thank him for his commitment and support and look forward to his continued involvement in the future,” said Noelle O Connell.
