2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Irish accession to the EU. This anniversary coincides with Ireland’s 7th rotation as President of the Council of the EU and with the designation of 2013 as the European Year of Citizens. In light of successful launch of the Year of Citizens by the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and President Barroso in Dublin at the beginning of January, and to follow on from the Citizens’ Dialogue event which took place with Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms Viviane Reding and Minister Creighton, EM Ireland are pleased to host a number of Regional Dialogues around the country over the course of 2013.
This dialogue follows on from a highly successful event in Cork last month and invites citizens from Galway city and county to engage in open and frank discussions with high-level political and economic figures and EU representatives, including:
– Introduction and welcome by Mayor of the County of Galway, Cllr. Thomas Welby
– Minister of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton TD
– HE Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Ireland, Tomáš Kafka
– Vice President of Galway Chamber of Commerce and Secretary/Financial Controller of GMIT, Jim Fennell
This associated Presidency event will feature short presentations from a panel of speakers. The floor will then be open to members of the audience to ask questions, raise topics of discussion and voice their issues.
We look forward to seeing you in Galway on 8 April.
