Exhibition ‘EU-Ireland@40: Looking Back over 40 Years’

December 5, 2013

To celebrate Ireland’s 40th anniversary of accession to the EU, the European Commission Representation in Ireland has curated an exhibition entitled “EU-Ireland@40: Looking back over 40 years”.

This exhibition represents an invaluable opportunity to review Ireland’s journey through the past 40 years of EU membership, a period of time during which the country was transformed politically, economically, socially and qualitatively.

22 panels lead visitors through the different stages of the relationship between Ireland and the EU: from the knocking on the door and the following accession, to the last years of crisis and recovery; passing through, amongst the others, the economic development (with the major role played by Common Agricultural Policy and Structural Funds), six previous Irish presidencies, nine Commissioners and two Secretaries-General, the introduction of the Single Market and the Euro, the enlargement and several referendums.

The exhibition will be on display in Blanchardstown Library until Friday 20 December 2013.
