European Movement Ireland welcomes today’s progress in the Brexit negotiations

Dublin, 8 December 2017: European Movement Ireland congratulates the negotiating teams and all parties involved in bringing about the developments on the Brexit negotiations announced today, which will pave the way for the next phase in the negotiation process.

Commenting after this morning’s announcement, European Movement Ireland Executive Director, Noelle O Connell, said: “There can be no doubt that this was a hard-reached agreement that reflects EU unity and solidarity for the unique circumstances on the island of Ireland and the determination of all sides to ensure that Brexit negotiations can progress.

“However, European Council President Donald Tusk’s stark warning that there is less than a year’s worth of negotiating time left is pertinent.  Phase two of the negotiations will be of historic importance to Europe, and Ireland must continue to work with our EU partners in the same spirit of solidarity to achieve the best possible outcome for all citizens.

“Nonetheless, today is a good day.”
